A proposed energy project in West Ottawa aims to address Ontario's increasing electricity demand by storing excess energy during low-demand periods and delivering it when demand peaks.
Guide Notes to Editors: How the HD Hydro system works: at times of low energy demand, with associated low costs, the High-Density Fluid R-19™ is pumped uphill between storage tanks (buried underground). The storage tanks are connected by underground pipes. As energy prices rise, the non-corrosive fluid is released downhill and passes through turbines,

Guide Hornung says the Canadian Renewable Energy Association has crunched the numbers on what it would entail to achieve the 2050 net-zero target: “Every year for the next 30 years we''ll have to build wind and solar out at a rate that''s eight times faster than the average rate we''ve been building them the last five years.
Guide The existing buildings sector accounts for an additional 46% of Ottawa''s community GHG emissions. Meeting Council''s emissions targets will require deep retrofits of 98% of these buildings by 2040. Meanwhile, Ottawa''s new Official Plan calls for a 50% increase in population by 2050, which is driving a significant increase in construction.

Guide Then consider solar-plus-storage options. Energy storage, also known as home battery storage, or home batteries, are rechargeable batteries that can store energy to power your home when needed. With a rooftop solar system, power from your panels flows into the home to meet your energy needs, and any excess solar energy is sent to the grid.
